World Sleep Day: Sleep & Bedtime Routine Calming Activity Cards

Calming Bedtime Activity Cards, such as stretching, colouring, drawing, calm talk, listening to calm music, reading or taking a warm bath. These cards help children to create a calm bedtime routine and actively support children with being able to go to sleep.
This resource has been designed to promote the importance of having routines to ensure good quality sleep, healthy sleep hygiene habits and tools for supporting children with their sleep.
Suitable for EYFS, KS1, and KS2.
How could this resource be used?
- To support understanding of how sleep impacts on our body and mind.
- To promote healthy sleep hygiene routines and daily practice.
- To understand the benefits of sleep and how it affects our mood not just our physical health.
- To support a good bedtime routine and personal sleep hygiene.

- KS1: H4. about why sleep is important and different ways to rest and relax.
- KS2: H8. about how sleep contributes to a healthy lifestyle; routines that support good quality sleep; the effects of lack of sleep on the body, feelings, behaviour and ability to learn.
- KS1: H17. about things that help people feel good (e.g. playing outside, doing things they enjoy, spending time with family, getting enough sleep).
- KS2: H16. about strategies and behaviours that support mental health — including how good quality sleep, physical exercise/time outdoors, being involved in community groups, doing things for others, clubs, and activities, hobbies and spending time with family and friends can support mental health and wellbeing.
