My Wally 'What If' Walrus Plan: Child-Friendly Risk Safety Plan

Creating a plan for a bad day. This resource supports children to think about a simple plan for keeping themselves safe during a bad day. Children are encouraged to identify distraction techniques, what has helped in the past, triggers, people who can help and support them, ways to look after themself, and breathing activities.
This worksheet can be used for safety planning and supporting with keeping children and young people safer. It is not a replacement for professional medical and psychological support should you be concerned about a child’s safety then please seek professional support.
This is suitable for KS1, KS2, and up at professional discretion for suitability.
How could this resource be used?
- To support with appropriate safety planning.
- To encourage children to consider ways to keep themselves mentally safe with appropriate strategies for support.

- KS1: H18 – different things they can do to manage big feelings, to help calm themselves down and/or change their mood when they don’t feel good.

- KS2: H20 – strategies to respond to feelings, including intense or conflicting feelings; how to manage and respond to feelings appropriately and proportionately in different situations.
