'A Walk Through My Favourite Spot': Meditation Strategy for Supporting Sleep
A useful strategy for supporting children to relax and fall asleep.
This is a step-by-step meditation guide to help children imagine being in their favourite place and going for a walk to promote relaxation, being present, and calmness.
Suitable for EYFS, KS1, and Ks2.
How could this resource be used?
- To support understanding of how sleep impacts on our body and mind.
- To promote healthy sleep hygiene routines and daily practice.
- To understand the benefits of sleep and how it affects our mood not just our physical health.

- KS1: H4. about why sleep is important and different ways to rest and relax.
- KS2: H8. about how sleep contributes to a healthy lifestyle; routines that support good quality sleep; the effects of lack of sleep on the body, feelings, behaviour and ability to learn.
- KS1: H17. about things that help people feel good (e.g. playing outside, doing things they enjoy, spending time with family, getting enough sleep).
- KS2: H16. about strategies and behaviours that support mental health — including how good quality sleep, physical exercise/time outdoors, being involved in community groups, doing things for others, clubs, and activities, hobbies and spending time with family and friends can support mental health and wellbeing.
