Soothing Strategies: Grounding Techniques Pocket Cards
Here are some self-soothing grounding techniques involving tapping or squeezing that can help calm and refocus children. These pocket cards are perfect for children to begin using straightaway. We recommend that younger children are trained in how to use these techniques prior to using them independently.
The key is providing sensory input and focusing their attention on the sensations in the moment rather than overwhelming thoughts and feelings. Start with just 30 seconds- 1 minute of any of these techniques.
This resource is suitable EYFS, KS1 (when trained in how to use the resource), and KS2.
