It’s World Book Day and here is a FREE resource that not only promotes a love of books but also explores how reading is good for our mental health and wellbeing.

This is a fun activity that is suitable for KS1 and KS2.

Reading is good for lots of reasons. Can you think of 5 reasons why reading is good for our wellbeing? For example, reading helps us to feel calm.

How could this resource be used?

  • To develop an understanding as to how reading can have a positive impact on our mental health and well-being.
  • To foster a love of reading whilst exploring different emotions and feelings linked to the PSHE curriculum.

  • KS1: H17. about things that help people feel good (e.g. playing outside, doing things they enjoy, spending time with family, getting enough sleep)
  • KS1: H18. different things they can do to manage big feelings, to help calm themselves down and/or change their mood when they don’t feel good.
  • KS2: H16. about strategies and behaviours that support mental health — including how good quality sleep, physical exercise/time outdoors, being involved in community groups, doing things for others, clubs, and activities, hobbies and spending time with family and friends can support mental health and wellbeing.
