These Grounding Technique cards have been developed to support children and young people with self-regulation and calming themselves down when feeling worried/ upset/ angry/ stressed/ etc.

This resource is suitable for Teens – as it refers to ‘Instagram’ style posts and Social Media, which is not suitable for KS1 and KS2 children. Please use at the practitioner’s discretion.

How could this resource be used?

  • To support children and young people with developing personal coping strategies for dealing with big emotions and feelings.
  • To help children and young people to distract themselves, for example: away from making risk-related decisions.

  • KS3: H9. strategies to understand and build resilience, as well as how to respond to disappointments and setbacks.
  • KS3: H10. a range of healthy coping strategies and ways to promote wellbeing and boost mood, including physical activity, participation and the value of positive relationships in providing support.
  • KS4: H7. a broad range of strategies — cognitive and practical — for promoting their own emotional wellbeing, for avoiding negative thinking and for ways of managing mental health concerns.
