Peer Mediation Guide & Session Pack
This is a brief 20+ page guide to introducing Peer Mediation in your school setting. How Peer Mediation is introduced will look different in each setting, but Exciting Teacher have put together this brief guide to get you started.
Children helping other children sort out disagreements – that’s what peer mediation is all about (Johnson and Johnson, 2009). Instead of always going to school staff when there’s a problem between classmates, peer mediation trains students to help each other talk it out and find a solution that works for everyone (Bickmore, 2011).
For Peer Mediation to be successful, all Peer Mediators must receive appropriate training in the core principles of Peer Mediation prior to starting their role. Peer Mediation should be part of a whole-school approach to peer conflict resolution.
Suitable for KS2, in particular Year 5 and 6.
The ‘Peer Mediation Guide’ aligns with several statutory England PSHE curriculum* objectives and the Scottish Health and Wellbeing Curriculum. *in line with the PSHE Association 2021 Statutory Guidance.
